I find it odd these books are considered cozy by some. Intricately plotted, historically sourced, with incredibly rich characters and interrelationships, yes. I don’t call that cozy, I call it brilliant. It’s my favorite place to go, Three Pines, and my favorite character is Ruth. Excellent series, excellent author. Absolutely riveting books.

About 4 years ago my book club started reading Louise Penny’s book, starting at book one. I have enjoyed each book as I’ve had the chance to read it. I like spending time in Three Pines. I sure would love yo have that bag as a place tp keep my Louise Penny books in one place.

Louise Penny is my favorite author. As I tol her at one of her signings, I would love to move to Three Pines to retire even though it’s obviously a much more dangerous place than it appears to be. Nonetheless the people are fascinating.

I’ve read so many mysteries that they seem to run together, so now I always look for not just a compelling story, but a writer who can take me into a special place, real or totally fictional. Being swept away by time and place makes the population within the confines of the tale grow richer and more alive for me.

I have followed Louise and her characters (including the village of Three Pines) since the beginning. Because of my recommendations on the Gamache books, friends come back asking for more. Besides the characters, knowing ahead of time that the story will be sometimes terrifying but that Penny can be trusted to bring me home safely, is very important. I also appreciate the excellent writing and editing her books offer. If I can only have one word to say, it’s MORE!

I am surprised to hear that Louise Penny had a new 3 Pines mystery. I thought that since Gamache had retired and moved to 3 Pines in their later years would have been a good way to wrap the series. I am happy to hear that is not the case!
